What qualifies for a free Bay Area pickup

Free pickups require a minimum of five qualifying items. Qualifying items include:

  • Desktop computers
  • Laptops and notebooks
  • LCD and CRT monitors
  • Servers, full racks, and data center hardware
  • Networking equipment (switches, routers, firewalls)
  • Test equipment and lab instrumentation

Once the 5-item minimum is met, we also accept printers, scanners, phones, tablets, projectors, UPS battery backups, lead-acid batteries, fluorescent tubes, cables, point-of-sale systems, guest-services hardware, and miscellaneous IT hardware on the same pickup.

For pickups below the 5-item minimum, fees range from $50–$100 depending on Bay Area location.

Certified data destruction across the Bay Area

Every storage device passes through our data destruction process before it leaves the warehouse, regardless of pickup location:

  • 7-pass hard drive wipe meeting DoD 5220.22-M standards
  • Physical shredding available when required for HIPAA, CCPA, GLBA, SOX, FERPA, SEC / FINRA, PCI DSS, attorney-client privilege, IP protection, or contractual reasons
  • Certificates of destruction issued on request for compliance and audit records
  • Chain-of-custody documentation from pickup through final disposition
  • Tenant-keyed documentation for multi-tenant data center and colocation work

SSDs, magnetic drives, backup tapes, and other storage media are handled separately from general equipment to eliminate any risk of data exposure. Whether your compliance requirements are tied to HIPAA, financial services regulators, attorney-client privilege, biotech IP, federal contractor agreements, or commercial tenant contracts, we’ll match the documentation standard your auditor or counterparty requires.

Multi-city and multi-site Bay Area programs

One of the biggest operational advantages of working with a single Bay Area service provider is unified coordination across cities and counties. We routinely handle:

  • Multi-site corporate cleanouts spanning San Francisco HQ, South Bay satellite offices, and East Bay or Peninsula operations centers under a single point of contact
  • Multi-county healthcare system pickups with consolidated HIPAA documentation across affiliated practices
  • Multi-district school programs for charter networks and county offices of education spanning multiple Bay Area counties
  • Multi-tenant data center work with separate tenant-keyed certificates of destruction
  • Bay Area–wide nonprofit and foundation cleanouts with consolidated reporting

Mention all sites at scheduling and we’ll plan phased pickups, consolidated documentation, and unified invoicing.

Compliance and certifications

  • R2 Certified downstream recyclers for every material stream
  • EPA-compliant transport and processing
  • California SB 20 (Electronic Waste Recycling Act) compliant
  • Fully insured — Certificates of Insurance available to property managers, corporate facilities teams, data center operators, county facilities, and federal contractor sites region-wide

The pickup process

  1. Request a pickup — call (415) 618-9234 or submit a request through our online form with your Bay Area address, contact, and rough item count.
  2. Schedule — most Bay Area pickups are booked within 1–2 business days. For multi-site programs, data center decommissions, or large facility cleanouts, we coordinate phased schedules ahead of arrival.
  3. On-site pickup — our team arrives with COI and any required documentation in hand. We handle the removal directly; no staging required from your team.
  4. Data destruction and processing — devices are transported to our processing facility, where storage media is destroyed and equipment is sorted for resale, parts harvesting, or R2-certified recycling.
  5. Documentation — certificates of destruction and chain-of-custody records are issued to your team on request.

Greater Bay Area commercial e-waste FAQ

What counties do you service? I Got E-Waste covers six Bay Area counties: San Francisco, Alameda, Contra Costa, Santa Clara, San Mateo, and Marin. Within those counties we service organizations within a 35-mile radius of San Francisco. If your city isn’t named on a dedicated service-area page, call us and we’ll confirm coverage.

Do you service residential customers anywhere in the Bay Area? No. I Got E-Waste is a commercial-only service for Bay Area businesses, schools, nonprofits, and government agencies with at least five qualifying items. For residential e-waste, each Bay Area county has its own residential program — Recology (San Francisco), StopWaste (Alameda County), RecycleMore and RecycleSmart (Contra Costa County), Santa Clara County HHW Program, RethinkWaste and Recology of San Mateo County (San Mateo County), and Marin Sanitary Service (Marin County).

Can you handle a single pickup that spans multiple Bay Area cities? Yes. Multi-city and multi-county pickups are a regular part of our work — common for tech companies with multi-site footprints, healthcare systems with affiliated practices, school districts with sites across cities, and nonprofits with multiple offices. Mention all locations at scheduling and we’ll plan routing and consolidated documentation.

How fast can you schedule a Bay Area pickup? Most pickups across the Bay Area are scheduled within 1–2 business days. Multi-site programs, data center decommissions, and large facility cleanouts typically book 5–7 days out.

Can you provide a single Certificate of Insurance valid across multiple Bay Area locations? Yes. We carry comprehensive commercial liability insurance valid across our entire Bay Area service area. We issue Certificates of Insurance to property managers, corporate facilities teams, and campus operators on request, with additional-insured endorsements specific to each building or facility’s requirements.

What’s the difference between I Got E-Waste and a national waste hauler? We’re a Bay Area–focused service. That means dedicated routing across the region, familiarity with each city’s commercial corridors and access patterns, and direct relationships with R2-certified downstream recyclers. National haulers typically subcontract local pickup work and ship material across longer distances. Our approach keeps Bay Area material in the Bay Area’s R2-certified processing chain.

Do you offer after-hours, weekend, or shift-coordinated pickups? Yes. Many Bay Area customers require pickups outside normal business hours — Class A high-rise freight policies, distribution center 24/7 shifts, healthcare patient-area restrictions, event venues, and data centers all have specific access windows. Mention your operational schedule when you request the pickup and we’ll align to it.

What happens to my electronics after pickup? All collected material is transported to our processing facility, where data is destroyed and equipment is sorted for resale, parts harvesting, or R2-certified recycling. Nothing is exported overseas illegally or sent to landfill, and chain-of-custody documentation is available for your audit records.
